Student Testimonials

Desmine T. Robinson, MAEL

Dr. Cila had a holistic impact on me during my college experience at Eastern Michigan University. Her coaching and mentorship helped me organize my calendar to include my personal and my academic life, discover my identity as a scholar, and solidify my self-awareness of, and confidence in my nuanced identities I behold. Her coaching still plays a role in my life to this day, as I share much of her tips and wisdom with the students I mentor and coach.

And, she ain't no punk!

Nailah Bush

"I had the pleasure of being taken under Dr. Cila's wing when I was a sophomore in college. Her ongoing support and mentorship has given me the confidence and inspiration to become the change I want to see in the world. Most importantly, she taught me how I can be a leader in my own community and how to stand in my power as a Black woman. I am forever grateful."

Joe Howard, III

"Dr. Cila met me with grace and wisdom, and her guidance kept me grounded, accountable, and moving toward my calling. What stood out most was her ability to truly relate! She listens without judgment, and understands both the personal and academic challenges, and always offers practical steps. Her innate professionalism and warm congeniality create an environment where you feel both supported and challenged to grow. She has a genuine desire to see everyone succeed, not only those she directly coaches,  but even those connected through her wider circle of influence. Working with her left me more confident, more capable, and more inspired to keep pressing toward my purpose."

Gerard Roberson

I first met Dr. Cila as an Americorps Vista in 2016 with the My Brother's Keeper Initiative. She was one of the Americorps Vista leaders that provided clarity and direction to help us reach at-risk youth. Dr. Cila's support throughout my time as an Americorps member inspired me to follow in her footsteps and accept the position as an Americorps Vista Leader too.
