The Juneteenth Legacy Bus Tour offers a guided cultural history experience exploring the significance of Idlewild, Michigan as one of the most important historic Black resort communities in the United States. This extended 2.5-hour interpretive tour highlights the people, places, and institutions that contributed to Idlewild’s development as a center of Black leisure, entrepreneurship, artistic expression, and self-determined community building.
As part of the Juneteenth Freedom Weekend, the tour provides historical context connecting Juneteenth’s meaning of freedom and mobility with Idlewild’s role as a place where African Americans created spaces of rest, celebration, and cultural achievement during periods of segregation.
Participants will visit key sites connected to recreation, business leadership, social life, and community formation, with guided storytelling that connects local history to broader narratives of Black American resilience…
